Branson Museum Tours

We've had many Branson Museum Tours and plan more tours in the coming weeks. Enjoy these favorites.

'57 Heaven Museum

1600 West Hwy 76

417-332-1960 or 1-800-985-3144

76 EAST AREA: The museum is on the south side across from Dixie Stampede.

This is a classic car museum like we've never seen. If you can remember this era it will be even more intriguing. Located in the Dick Clark American Bandstand complex, you'll enter into American culture of the 50's. The re-created setting of a town of the 50's is a perfect background for the beautiful cars of that era.

If you don't date back to the 50's, you may find some unfamiliar car brands such as Studebaker, Hudson, Nash, and Packard. As you wander through the car displays you'll feel as though you are walking through small-town America of the 50's. The re-creations of a filling station or a store front window displaying those must-have items of the period will either flood your mind with memories or spark your imagination of life fifty years ago.

Today we have car CD players that took the place of cassette players that eliminated the 8-tract players. Can you remember or imagine having to listen only to what the DJ picked while cruising in your car and worse only having AM radio? There was something special about the anticipation of the next song or the fun of the DJ. You might be surprised though, as we were, to see a car on display with a 16 2/3 record player stuck in the dash.

This is a mighty good place to spend some time and you'll find a little bit of history and data on display in front of each car.

Don't miss this place!

RALPH FOSTER MUSEUM

College of the Ozarks

Point Lookout, MO

417-334-6411, ext. 3407

HOLLISTER AREA: South of Branson, along Hwy 65 and across Lake Taneycomo is the town of Hollister. Turn right at first exit to go to College of the Ozarks.

Unless you're from the Ozarks and over 50, you may not know of Ralph Foster. Ralph started KWTO radio in Springfield in 1932 with broadcasts of live performers. In fact there were many country stars that got their start performing live at KWTO.

He later created the national TV show out of Springfield, MO called the Ozark Jubilee on ABC-TV. Saturday night in Springfield in those days was a big night, drawing crowds from all over the nation to the Jewell Theater in downtown Springfield. The show featured the country stars of the era playing country, rockabilly and Ozark music and helped popularize country music.

The museum displays artifacts and natural history of the Ozarks region plus items from around the world. These items feature Art, Music, Native American artifacts, firearms, animal exhibits, dolls, clocks, Ozarks history and more.

This is a fascinating museum and is located on the campus of the College of the Ozarks.

THE WORLD'S LARGEST TOY MUSEUM

417-332-1499

76 WEST AREA: Museum is on the north side just past White Water.

No matter what your age, this vast collection of toys from yesteryear will be a delight. There are toys dating to the civil war period all the way to the present. Even Grandma's closet can't compare to the number and range of toys on exhibit here.

You'll wander through rooms of toys, bringing back memories of your childhood and those of your children. We can't imagine a more thorough exhibit.

Right in the middle of this museum of childhood pleasures is the HAROLD BELL WRIGHT MUSEUM. Harold Bell Wright was the author of the "Shepherd of the Hills" a story of the Ozarks at the beginning of the 20th century and one of the bestselling books in history.

The museum features a film, manuscripts and copies of Wrights 19 books, his collection of firearms and numerous personal items and antiques.

The sinking of the Titanic has captured the hearts and imaginations of people for generations. This magnificent indestructible ship sank on its maiden voyage.

RIPLEY'S BELIEVE IT OR NOT! MUSEUM

3326 W. Hwy 76

417-337-5300 OR 1-800-998-4418 for group rates

76 WEST AREA: Ripley's is on the south side of Hwy 76. You won't miss this building either.

The building appears to have barely survived an earthquake and that is exactly the intention. It refers to one of the large succession of earthquakes in the US that occurred about 250 miles east of here at New Madrid, MO in 1811 and 1812.

Inside you can take a self-guided museum tour through some of the most bizarre, strange and amazing collections of events and items ever compiled.

Robert Ripley first called his cartoon feature in the New York Globe "Champs and Chumps" involving sports feats in 1918. The next year, after adding items not related to sports, he changed the name to "Believe it or Not."

This museum is interesting, fun and at times just hard to believe and yet they claim it is all true.

Kids will love this museum as much as the adults.
